As Told by Art Teachers College Interview Questions Students Should Prepare ForNothing can really prepare you for the college interview questions professors will be throwing your way. Every professor has their set of questions to evaluate whether or not you are eligible for acceptance.

Nonentheless, it’s best to at least have an idea about the college interview questions teachers are most likely to ask.

PortPrep reached out to different art teachers and professors online and asked them the question that’s been bothering you while preparing for your college interview:

What questions should art students prepare for during interview with colleges?

Below are some of the responses we’ve received.

My first piece of advice would be to know your “why.” Why are you going to college? Why do you want to go into this particular art program, at this particular school? And why do you need to create your art?

Also just know, what it is you would like to create for now and later. What is your vision for the future? And what do you think you need to learn from your college experience in order to do that?

My second piece of advice would be to remember that you should also be asking some questions of them. If not directly, then indirectly. Do you feel this will be a good fit for you? Why or why not? Does their curriculum include not just art but some business and marketing courses as well? What percentage of their professors walk the walk? By that I mean – how many of them don’t actually need to be teaching, because they are financially successful outside of their teaching gig, doing the art they are teaching you?

While there is nothing wrong in teaching for a living – I have learned the most from those who do not need to teach for a living, but do so as a way to augment their income, or simply to share their knowledge with younger generations. I believe successful artists make the best teachers, because they don’t just know technique but execution from a marketing and business perspective. Two things a lot of art colleges do not focus on.

  • Are my teachers active producing and publishing artists?
  • How much of my own ideas would be considered while I learn new skills?
  • Will I be able to learn to think critically about my own work and learn to successfully and productively discuss my art pieces and my peers’ art pieces in a group discussion setting(s)?

  • What artists have inspired you?
  • What made you realize you wanted to be an artist?
  • What interests you about this particular program? What are you looking forward to doing at this school?
Let’s hear what you have to say! If you are currently an art student in college, what were the college interview questions you encountered that applicants must know to prepare them for their interivews?
